Stevan Mokranjac Youth Choir is an opportunity for young people to experience the joy and happiness of choral music, and share it with new friends.
Group singing has been scientifically proven to lower stress, relieve anxiety, and elevate endorphins.
With this choir you will learn choral gems from Serbian and other musical traditions.
You are welcome to come on your own or bring friends.
Serbian language speaking is not required.
Djina Stojkov, the director of the youth choir Stevan Mokranjac, has been involved in classical music and choral singing since early childhood. She obtained her diploma in piano performance, as well as a degree in musical pedagogy from the University of Performing Arts in Belgrade, Serbia. Djina was a long standing member of one of the most distinguished choirs in Serbia, Collegium Musicum, under the direction of Darinka Matic Marovic. This choir toured Europe and Asia extensively, and successfully participated in a number of world class choral competitions. Djina continued her engagement in choral singing in Vancouver, where she is a member of the Slavic chamber choir Cyrilika, as well as the Vancouver Academy of Music chamber choir Schola Cantorum.
Djina is very pleased and appreciates the opportunity to convey her experience and love of choral singing to younger generations in Vancouver.
